It takes a lot of confidence to be this ridiculous.
I am honoured to announce that my debut collection of poetry, Elephant, has arrived. I’ve been working on this project for two years and it’s finally ready. It has been an absolute pleasure and an incredibly illuminating experience to curate the 37 poems that make up the book. What a process of self-discovery it has been!
Elephant aims to address the elephant(s) in the room and start or (re)open honest discussions about difficult and often taboo subjects such as race and racism, identity, (black) womanhood, the family, fatherlessness, unemployment, the politics of beauty and black hair, love and betrayal and so much more. I wrote this book with honesty and I hope it will encourage each reader to cast a critical and ‘woke’ eye on society and do something meaningful with what they discover.
Elephant will be available to purchase from 21st May 2016. In the lead up to its official publication, I will be hosting pre-launch events, an actual launch event, and releasing two chapbooks of poetry to give you a taster of what’s to come in the full collection. There will also be competitions and give-aways.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank my editor, Daniella Blechner; and my designers, CVA JAE and Katya Sarria.
Elephant is published via the Haus of Liberated Reading.
