Sunday 30th: ‘We Real Cool: Black Masculinity and Feminism Workshop’, with Siana and Jesse

‘We Real Cool’, taken from bell hooks’ critically acclaimed book, is a workshop aims to assess and critique black masculinity and its role within a white patriarchal world. The workshop will touch on the following topics:

  • What is (black) masculinity?
  • The patriarchal society we live in
  • Films, media and pop culture
  • Feminism, intersectionality and its role in the world

The workshop will interactive and will involve film, music and small group discussions.

Saturday 25th (11.15 am): Feminism in London Conference – I will be running a workshop on Poetry and Black Feminism in the Women’s Struggle: “Still I Rise: Black Women, Feminism, and the Art of Poetry and Performance”, a workshop by Siana Bangura.

In this workshop, through the poetry and spoken word of 8 women of colour, we will explore the notion of Black Feminism and intersectionality. 
 
Poetry will be shared from the works of Yrsa Daley Ward, Warsan Shire, the great Maya Angelou, Audre Lorde and more. 

Saturday 25th (6pm): Canning Town Caravanserai – Join us to Celebrate Black History Month at this FREE event in Canning Town. The event runs from 12 – 8pm and I will be on from 6pm. I’ve got a 25 minute set and will be sharing some new poems with you.
